One of our favorite weekend activities is going to the farmer's market. We love grabbing fresh fish, meeting the local growers and farmers, and keeping an eye out for fun new ingredients that spark an idea for a new recipe. This weekend they had passion fruit so we thought it'd be fun to try a few cocktail using these unique purple fruit. The passionfruit itself is pretty tart so we thought it'd be a good one to try with smoky mezcal and gin. We're not big into sweet drinks, but you can make this one sweeter by making s syrup out of the passionfruit juice. We named it smoky passion because of the smoky taste mezcal adds to the passionfruit.
If using fresh passionfruit, gut or remove the juice and seeds into your mixing glass.
Gently mash the seeds and fruit to loosen the seeds. This will help increase your juice yield as the seeds cling to the juice and fibers of the passionfruit. .
In your mixing glass, add ice, gin and mezcal. Stir, strain and serve over a king cube in a rocks glass or straight in a martini glass.
Garnish with your passionfruit rind. Serve immediately.
