We are ramping up for the super bowl here in NYC and what better way to kick things off than with some wings! I am a huge fan of the classic chicken wing, deep fried and covered in sauce surrounded by big screen tv's and beer. Wait.. oh.. I guess that isn't always the healthiest option says Christina. So, we decided to let me still have all the fun of chicken wings without it being AS unhealthy as the standard wings you get from restaurants.
These wings are so good that I literally ate all 12 of them when we made them... and THEN had dinner. So yeah, I promise these are awesome. And I wasn't sold that they would come out crispy without deep frying them, but sure enough they definitely do! I think we are going to make a few dozen of these with wings and drumsticks combined for the big game day we encourage you to do the same!
Begin by preheating your oven to 400F. Then, start by rinsing off your chicken, whether it be wings or drumsticks, and patting them dry with paper towels. Mix together the flour, paprika, salt, garlic, chili powder and pepper and then toss the chicken wings in them to coat.
Lay the chicken pieces on a well oiled baking sheet. Place in the oven for 45 minutes, making sure to flip the chicken at the 20 minute mark so as to ensure they cook evenly.
While the chicken cooks, add the BBQ sauce, agave, cumin, garlic powder and cayenne pepper together into a small sauce pan and stir together on the lowest heat. Stir occasionally, but keep the sauce warm. Doing this thickens the sauce and makes it stick nicely to the wings when they are done.
When the wings are done, let them cool for about 2-3 min just to make sure they stay crispy. Then, place them into a large bowl and mix in the sauce. Using tongs, toss the wings in the sauce to coat and then let them sit for 1-2 minutes. Toss them to coat again and then plate and serve immediately.
